I spent most of today deep cleaning one wheel. Anybody got any tips for this and for polishing/sealing after? My fingers are numb! The wheel looks good tho!
Thanks

If you have a compressor you can wash them with a sponge then blow them dry . But chrome rusts and chips off so they must be dry as sticks , Then cut your micro duster into thin strips slip them in between your wires with a good quality liquid wax ( ie Auto Glym ) and pull each end on the duster . Once you have cleaned out the dirt use the other strips to slot between your spokes and polish them to a shine . A problem is with chrome and polished s/steel around the base of the spokes near the tyre you have a habit of getting your finger in the wide bits and pulling the duster around the dust scratches the chrome and you can see it in the shine around the rim of the wheel . Sorry but there is no easy way . Also use pipe cleaners on the hub

Hello Simon,
I use to spray Meguiars stuff on the wheel, than brush off with an old dishbrush and after that rinse it off with water, though not use a compressor and dry it off with a fiber cloth.
After that I take the wheel into the garage and use a toothbrush and a liitle more Meguiars stuff and clean the hard parts. When the wheel is completely clean I use another Meguiars foam and polish (do not remember the exact name of it at the moment as I am not in my garage) the wheel which also has a protecting effect. I clean the wheels thoroughly once a year on both sides. Can be done during the off season so you still can be close to your MOG. I know it is hard work, but when not in a hurry, so what!

I'm new to wire wheels (mine are stainless). I wear disposable rubber gloves (attractive) and take the wheels off to clean them.

It's a very long job.

I've waxed mine with 'Rim Wax' (Amazon) amd I'm told it helps keep them cleaner.

I'm experimenting with stuff like 'Muck Off) a bicycle wheel cleaner I think, but it's really only elbow grease and time that's getting them clean.

I use Autoglym Custon wheel cleaner (suitable for chrome) spray it on it dissolves the brake dust and really makes it shine without much effort. Then rinse with water and dry with a hairdryer. Then wax and seal with Autoglym sealer. If its done regularly its quick and easy. Once a year I would remove the wheels to do it.

Cheers - Keith

For the once a year deep clean I have used a tape called "Metalace"
It is an impregnated tape about 15mm wide and is meant for cleaning spokes, tubes pipes etc.
I get this from Cromwell tools but I am sure others like eBay &Amozon can do this
The packaging has a web address www.enginewise.co.uk

I don't have any connections with this company, its just a good product

Are you 'once a year' chaps cleaning the outside part of the wheel regularly?

I use auto finesse - citrus power as this is non acidic and works wonders on chrome and only needs very slight agitation once applied

Hi Simon,
I just jet wash my plus 8 wheels then wipe them dry as best I can before putting the car in the garage, once wheels have dried I spray them with light oil around the base of the spokes and wipe off surplus, seems to work well.

I use gunk and an electric toothbrush to get the muck off and then polish around the spokes with my little fingrs. It takes about an hour per wheel.
